From before the creation, God has had a plan to put the world right by re-establishing His kingdom through His Son, the Lord Jesus, so that once more He is glorified!

Ephesians 1:3-6, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.

Our passage reminds us that although sin wrecked God’s perfect plans for His kingdom, there were already plans in place to reverse the curse of sin and death.

This sovereign plan gives us certain hope that one day the awful consequences of our rebellion against him will be undone. Even in the early days of Genesis, we see a picture of God’s amazing grace:
• God promised a “serpent-crusher” (Gen. 3:15).
• God protected Cain (Gen. 4:15).
• God walked with Enoch and carried him to heaven (Gen. 5:24).

God’s grace showed up in covenants, too. A covenant is when God commits himself to his people to make binding promises. His promises to Abraham dominate the rest of the Bible.

Therefore the promised kingdom included:

1. People: Abraham’s descendants
2. Land: Canaan was given to Abraham
3. Blessing: Abraham’s seed would bless the nations.
