Psalm 66:18-20, “If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me!“
I am sure that you have often felt that God is distant from you, that your prayers can’t, won’t, or don’t reach Him? Especially when you are unsure of past sins or unrepentance. We need to remind ourselves that God is present everywhere, including here with us.
Therefore, our Psalm encourages us to draw near to God who is already near, listening to our cries. We need to then be mindful of His presence because drawing near to God is a conscious attitude. It is an intentional choice, as drawing near to God involves allowing ourselves to be aware of His presence with and toward us.
