Romans 10:9-10, “…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.“
Dead in our sins, physical change and intellectual growth does nothing for our spiritual state. The remedy is in the cross and the resurrection. The transformation from our old self to the new requires the Holy Spirit’s indwelling, which takes place when we are saved and as we surrender our lives in faith to Christ.
Our goal in evangelism is not merely to tell people about Christ; it is to lead people to Christ. God is pleased to use us as instruments in the Spirit’s work of conviction, leading to repentance from sin, confession of Christ as Lord and Savior, and receiving of the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, in evangelism, we cultivate, plant, and reap the harvest. So to lead a person to Christ, we need to freely ask God to give us the boldness and faith that we need in order to reach the people that he has given us.
