Hebrews 3:13, “…exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Jerry Bridges once said that sin, no matter the level of earthly consequence, is deceitful and hardens our hearts. This calls for a watchfulness of our lives, but also an awareness of the sins that need watching. Here are some sins that require diligent, moment-by-moment watchfulness:
• Lying
• Selfishness
• Anger
• Impurity
• Irritability
• Covetousness
• Pride
• Materialism

But by no means should this replace the obedience of living out our righteousness. Therefore it is important that we develop godly habits. Again, Bridges has said, “holiness of character…is developed one choice at a time as we choose to act righteously in each and every situation and circumstance we encounter during the day.” Let us then also put on godliness in these areas:
• Truthfulness
• Unselfishness
• Forgiveness • Purity
• Patience
• Generosity
• Humility
• Simplicity.

Friends, it is by grace that we can choose to walk by the Spirit and live in obedience to God’s Word. This is a costly life, and being committing to holiness in every aspect of life may seem legalistic, yet if we aim any lower, we will crawl on the danger of losing the battle with sin.
