2 Corinthians 5:21, “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.“
This verse refers to God’s work of redemption through Christ on the cross, which displays the beautiful nature of His work. Friends, God in Christ reconciled us to Himself. Christ took the punishment that we deserve and was treated as a sinner in our place, as God’s beauty is once again revealed.
In fact, this beauty is seen through Christ’s office of high priest, as He had to be made perfect through suffering (Heb. 2:10; 7:26). How does this reveal His beauty? The cross displays Christ’s mediating work of dying for sin, in our place, it displays His glory and might.
Christ taking our punishment in our place glorifies God and is therefore beautiful. Christ did it of His own accord, and in this, in the act of giving His life for His people, His beauty is displayed.
