Psalm 97:9, “For you, O Lord, are most high over all the earth; you are exalted far above all gods.”
Worship is about us exalting God. As God is always the greater and we are always the lesser. If this is how worship truly is defined, then worship is about far more than singing on Sunday morning. We need to exalt God in our hearts, our thoughts, our love, our faith, our gratefulness, and our longing.
And we do that through our actions, our obedience, our praise, our speech, our serving, and our faithful witness. All of these efforts to worship God can only happen by grace, not by our supposed inclination or duty to God. Therefore as Bob Kauflin, from Sovereign Grace Music, has said; “God intends for us to exalt him not only with our songs but also with our lives.” Let our worship then be in the adoration of our Holy God!
